I'm planning on taking the Eurostar to Paris for a day or two. A friend of a friend suggested that on the way back, I get off the train in Brussels and walk around for a few hours for lunch and sightseeing. I haven't found anything on the Eurostar website that verifies that I'll be able to just hop off and hop back on. Anybody know anything about this?
I've also read suggestions regarding carrying food and a bottle of wine onto the train. Can I do that? Generally, what are the rules for boozing in public?
you can download a copy of the Eurostar timetable. As you will see, the Eurostar to Paris does not stop in Brussels so you would have to use another train service (Thalys, I believe) to go between Paris and Brussels. The whole thing would be possible, but not that easy and (I'd say) probably not worth doing just for a short wander around Brussels. Sorry!
www.raileurope.co.uk is a good resource to research your options, but it is cheaper to buy the tickets from the individual train companies www.bahn.de also enables you to search the timetables etc.
You could certainly bring your own food and no, there is nothing stopping you bringing wine on board, there's no rule against drinking in moderation on board the train as far as I'm aware, and I can't imagine anyone would mind.
