Karin, Here is a handy Tax calculator to work it out. I don't think it makes any difference that you are German. If you are working in Ireland and paid in Ireland, you are paying tax in Ireland unless you are sent there to work by a German firm and are being paid in Germany?

I know that you can apply for some sort of tax rebate on the rent if you are renting accommodation but I am not quite sure where to find that information.

wow. where in Ireland? the cost of living there has sky-rocketed fairly recently (!) and I think it would be tough to get by (housing, etc.) in the east on that - perhaps not if this is in the countryside...but do make sure to check it out! (I know people still at home living with their parents on higher saleries becasue they cannot afford to live on that)

Karin, I agree wholeheartedly with Musetta. Your €24,000 in Ireland is not going to mean you can live at the same level as you do on that salary in Germany. My son spent last year working in Berlin and commented how incredibly cheap the rents are there compared to the UK and Ireland.

If you look at this you will see that the average salary for an office administrator is higher than this (and this an average over all of Ireland so includes the country districts) I think it might be a good idea to push the job offers higher!

I'm sure you will find accommodation your main problem but, for the first time since the 'Celtic tiger', house prices are falling in Ireland.

For an idea of rents, etc, check:
Myhome

If you're buying your own home, consider the considerable expense of irish fuel, namely gas and electricity. The advantage of rented accommodation is that many include energy costs (check before signing).

If you tell us where you're thinking of going, we could be of more help. Someone asked a question about moving to Dublin in Yahoo Answers;
Moving to Dublin?

All the best,

Peter (native Dubliner)
