I'd say it all depends on how early you are prepared to get up. I'd be inclined to grab a cab from Vancouver Studios to Victoria Station which should only take half an hour door to door, possibly less. The traffic doesn't usually get too congested between 7 and 8 am. Even if it is, the good thing about black cabs (as opposed to mini cabs) is that they are allowed to use the bus lanes which are fairly quick. If you want to go by public transport, I'd leave an hour (from Vancouver Studios) just because you never know if you need to alter your route for one reason or another.

That sounds about right for driving out of London in the early part of the morning rush-hour, and allowing for the congestion that builds up around 8 am on the approach to the airport from the M23 motorway. However, if you have a driver he should be able to advise you based on actual experience of doing the drive.
