I asked about the DART from Dublin but would I be better off just getting a taxi? There will be 5 adults going from Dublin airport to Dun Laoghaire about 7:30am on a Saturday morning.

thank you

Hello again cmgl10s! Almost certainly better I would say. When you divide the fare by 5 this will represent good value and you will not have all that hassle of public transport especially if you have luggage to carry from your dropping off point. You did not say exactly where in Dun Laoghaire you were staying.

I am not sure, but you might have to order the taxi as this will involve a 'people carrier', larger than the average taxi, but I do see them queuing up outside the arrivals place with the other taxis and taking less people. I have been a lone passenger in a vast vehicle on occasion. There are just not so many of them so you might have to wait a bit if you haven't booked in advance.

Thank you Felicity for your response, do you know about how much the larger taxi might cost and also where would I book it ahead of time?
thank you

I don't think you'll get much change from about 60 euros for a 5-person! It might be a good idea to pre-order one but, as always, if you get one at the taxi rank ask the driver how much it costs before you leave. I have arrived in Dublin airport on occasions to find a huge queue/line waiting for taxis, so a pre-ordered taxi could be very useful.

Dublin taxi drivers are generally extremely honest and friendly but there's always the chance someone might go the "long way around" if you're getting into a taxi at the rank.

cmg - I am in Dublin at the moment Smile so if I have time at the airport when I am travelling back, I will see if I can get more information on who is reliable. Any time I have needed a taxi I have just dialled one of the radio cab numbers and ordered it a day in advance but that was going the other direction, to the airport.

However, just by googling I found this online taxi service but they don't say if they have larger vehicles for your numbers so I don't know if the price of €49 euros to Dun Laoghaire will apply. It might be worth emailing them.

Ok, cmg. From the horse's mouth - the Dublin Airport information desk:

They think there is no problem getting a large taxi by just waiting - "there's loads of them", she said but then looked rather thoughtful when I said Saturday morning, 7.30 a.m. so I asked for a number to book through ahead of time. I am not sure how far ahead they will take bookings. My experience with booking is that they don't like to be too far in the future.

She said, "we use them all the time" so they are Ok'ed by them. The number is + 3531 4544070
