Hi; I'm stopping over in London for one night, enroute from Canada to Greece, in September, and can't pin down a decent well-priced, clean hotel for one night.
There are lots available, but all the reviews (not here); are so negative, mostly about cleanliness and bedbugs!! Eek
I am only breaking my journey to get some sleep, so I'm not after a fancy place, just clean and safe
Doesn't need to be a hotel:a B.and B. would be just fine.
Entering UK via Heathrow, and leaving via Gatwick, so hence want to be near Victoria Station to make it easy to get to LGW.
I looked at staying at/near one or other of the airports, but that is a bit soul-less; and I have nearly 24 hours; so would rather be in London.
If anyone has any advice about places you have stayed in within the last year, that are under about 70 pounds Roll Eyes a night, please let me know!
Thanks!!

SJ - there is a regular poster on here (who I have met at a slowtravel GTG in London) with screen name of MariaV. If you do a search in past posts I am sure you can find her and she is uniquely placed to advise on this although I am not absolutely sure that your budget constraints might not be a stumbling block but it is worth giving her a shout.

Thanks Felicity Smile I've sent a PM to SJ. We can certainly meet her requirements. Well, I don't know how many people there are, so maybe I shouldn't say that, but .... Wink Grin

Thanks for your PM, Maria!
I have narrowed down my search, and your hotel is on my list. Wink
There's only me, as I'm meeting other friends when I get to Greece.

SJ, you're welcome! And even if we're not your choice, please do PM or email me with your other thoughts and I can let you know any "real scoop" on them. We do get opinions regarding other hotels/B&Bs from people who've stayed (and/or walked out!) in most of the ones in this area, and I've personally looked at the rooms from many of them. So, I'd be more than happy to give you an honest opinion and let you know if you should give it a pass or take it. There are a few we are more than happy to send people to (that won't ruin my/our reputation for sending them to Happy).

Thanks, Felicity for referring me to Maria; and thanks Maria for your help!
I have provisionally booked the Henley House Hotel, in Barkston Gardens, near Earls Court Tube Station.
What's your opinion of that one, if you know the hotel?
I'm basically just going to sleep ; I can't do these mega long journeys all in one day any more!! Wink

I only know my Victoria area, so I'm afraid I can't give an opinion on your choice! Smile The way I look at it is, you're only there for one night right, and just to sleep? You should be fine.

Have a wonderful time!
