In the news today:a village in the Cotswolds is planning to buy a donkey to make shopping deliveries because of the very steep narrow lanes (which made me think of Pauline telling us about the very steep and narrow lane to their rental in a town not too far away.)
I wondered if Pauline and Steve have contemplated any donkey-related transport assistance during their stay?
I know donkeys used to be used for transport in the vertical coastal village of Mousehole (pronounced mouszill) in Cornwall and I now have visions of this spreading throughout some of our more inaccessible rural areas.
Could certainly be a useful mode of transport for those who overindulge in a Cotwold teashop!

Some years ago we stayed for a few nights in the seaside village of Clovelly in North Devon. The village is extremely steep... a cobblestone main street kind of spilling down to the harbor. At one time they used donkeys to cart provisions and tourist luggage up and down. We saw the donkeys in a paddock, but I think most people were transported in a land rover. We did see the milkman making his deliveries with some sort of sledge.
(I just discovered that the Clovelly donkeys have their own website!)
