Dining at one of London's pubs sounds like a fun time. I'd like some recommendations especially for fish and chips.

We went to this pub near our hotel and ended up there 7 nights out of 7 and my husband had fish and chips every single one of those nights.
He's still missing those fish and chips a year later.

We have been to other pubs but the proximity of this one to our hotel helped make it a winner.

There are so many great pubs that serve good food, that the question might be more easily answered in the negative, i.e. which pubs should be avoided.

There's a Good Pub Guide published every year that you might be able to find in your library so you could plan in advance, or you could just take your chances once you're here. There was fish & chips on the menu at The George the last time we were there, and they looked pretty good. But it kind of depends where you plan to be in London. You're always relatively close to a pub with good food.

There is a pub in the East End called the Legion on Old Road. I'm not sure about their food but they have a great karaoke night on Tuesdays called Hot Breath Karaoke. The performance, and it is a performance - not your usual karaoke, is run by a Canadian couple, Mike and Jennifer.

Well, 'dining' at a pub is not exactly the word we would use! Eastenders pub is a bit crowded in most scenes but that comes closer to what you will find. First, you order at the bar, get your drink, pay and then 'squeeze' your way to a table--if it has a #, let the barkeep know as your food will be brought to you. London pubs are wonderful: Prince Albert is trendy and great--near Scotland Yard/Metropolitan Police. Over in Little Venice, three minutes walk from Warwick Station on the Bakerloo Line, is a lovely pub where the fish and chips are very good--and the company is varied--some canal people and others from the Maida Vale area of the well off--I think it is called The Bridge. Anyone in the area would know the pub across from Little Venice mooring area. Then there is Camden Locks--there was a huge fire in the Locks trading area over a yr ago and I have no idea how that has fared, but there are a couple of pubs on Camden Road--Camden Town station is on the Northern Line. Also, do not miss China Town!! Off of Leicester Square. Real Chinese food and THERE YOU DINE!!! Have one for us--we miss London!

We had a very nice dinner at Scarsdale Arms in Kensington. It was more of a casual dining place and less of a pub IMO. Food was good and it was set among some very nice homes. I found it here http://www.fancyapint.com/pubs/pub1350.html which seemed to be a good source of pub reviews.

The Good Pub Guide, mentioned earlier, is now on-line here and is a great resource.

It's a little out of the way, but our favorite in London is the White Horse in Parson's Green. The food is excellent, and the menu usually includes fish and chips.
