I read about this site on the Fodor's message board. MultiMap is an interactive mapping service. You can get detailed street level maps, maps of the Underground, driving directions, pls you can search for businesses near a specific address. I was able to locate the names and addresses of cheese shops, restaurants, delis, etc near the flat we have rented for London. MultiMap

Dear Tracy,
Thank you so much for this link. It looks like it works world wide and therefore great for Italy too. I have looked for something similar ever since getting my computer and wanting to know how to get around various places..... but mostly around Italy. This site may be the answer.

Infortunately, it doesn't work for other countries. You can get maps, but you cannot search for local businesses. I wish you could - I would love to know what specifically is near our apt in Paris.

Dear Tracy,
Thanks again, I hadn't gotten around to looking further yet as I also have an interest in England.
I have never been to France either, but might get there one day ........ I have had a promise or two but you know what they can be like? At least I have an invite next year to La Traviata if its playing in Verona......Yippee!
There is sure to be someone on the board (definitely the Italy board) that has a lot of knowledge of Paris and surrounds..... have you tried there?
Now I am going to try a lead suggested on that board (cant think of the thread name) re maps and see where that leads....if it takes me past America I will let you know.
Thankyou so much,
Carole

Tracy,
P.S. the Italy thread was called 'Rome in a Flash' and the map site is 'MapBlast' ........ see how that goes.
One of the neat things about MultiMap is that you can often access aerial photos (at at least 2 levels of detail) across the countryside. You cannot do this with MapBlast.
