You didn't say where you are or where you are going. High tea at that big hotel on Stephen's Green in Dublin, the Shelbourne?, was pretty special.

If by chance you are talking about London, I would recommend tea at the Savoy. It's been a few years, but it was veddy veddy special - harpist, a tower of tea sandwiches, gloved waiter, ladies in Chanel suits and all.

In London, how about tea at The Ritz? Also, we had a wonderfully elegant afternoon tea at the Connaught - which is now ... a Sheraton?? I've forgotten, but it shouldn't be hard to find ... "Meet me at the Connaught" is a phrase I recall from one of the Sherlock Holmes stories.

In addition to all these excellent suggestions you can also have a blow out tea at Harrods which has the advantage that you can do your shopping at the same time.

Oh, and there's also Fortnum & Mason's, for a really uppercrust experience - and you can also stock up on goodies there when you're done.
