Hello, Was wondering if any one had recommendations for 1-2 night stay in Dublin that is affordable, but quiet. Wondering if that is a possibility?? Planning to arrive in Dublin around June, 16th for Bloomsday, with husband after 11 days on west coast. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, sms

I suppose it depend on what you mean by affordable! The Jury's Inn chain is good - unlike most irish accommodation they charge by the room, although I don't think breakfast is included. The one at Christ Church cathedral is busy but I would recommend Customs House Quay.
I know someone who stayed at the reasonable Days Inn at Talbot Street (very close to the city centre, Connolly station, Busarus etc. The rooms are small though but the price - €55 each, included a full breakfast. More expensive is Buswells Hotel in Molesworth Street, Dublin 2, although you might get a deal through someone like Expedia. It *is* in a quiet part of the city unlike Lynham's Hotel on O'Connell Street, but still recommended.
If you're prepared to stay out of town, try the Ibis Dublin West (breakfast additional €9 each); it has the advantage of being on the rapid rail/Luas tram system's Red line.
Thanks Peter for all your helpful advice. I have planned succesful trips to Italy and France, but for some reason having difficuly deciding what to do in Ireland. So many choices! Anyway, thinking about staying outside the city either at Hollybank in Drumcondra or Waterloo House. Any thoughts on these two places? Thanks, Susan
I commented on Waterloo House there. It is not dead central but I would not describe it as 'out of the city'. Hollybank may be wonderful (I don't know it) but Drumcondra is not an area I would, personally, choose for beauty, sites, shops or restaurants - that side of Dublin, coming into the centre is not as 'tidy' as the south side. What I am trying to say is if you are planning on walking in, your walk will be longer and not so pleasant.
I would basically agree with Felicity. While there are some fine houses in Drumcondra, the north inner city is not so salubrious as the safer and leafier south side if you're walking back in the evening or at night. Alternatively, there is a train station at Drumcondra and it is on major bus routes (although I wouldn't recommend taking the bus after 11pm - the last train leaves Dublin Connolly for Drumcondra at 19:10!).
On the other hand, neither are very far and you could always take a taxi from the city centre (about 4-7 euro, I would guess).
Thanks to both Peter and Felicity. Your advice again is very helpful and I will certainly now plan on making a Hotel/B and B on the south side of the city. Felicity-thanks for reminding me of that other thread. Yes I did read it before and the whole process gets very confusing after checking Tripadvisor. Anyway, I just need to put it in proper percepective as it is only a hotel and I'm only staying two nights! I have started another thread rearding Dingle vs Connemara/Sligo area. Perhaps you would be willing to give me more advice. Thanks, Susan
