My husband, myself and our 3 adult children are leaving for Ireland Friday. Thanks so much for all the help and advice once again. We used so much of the advice from this site on our trip to Italy and had a wonderful time, we are looking forward to this one. We have 10 days to spend together. My husband and I have been twice before but first time for our kids, can't wait for them to see it!

One piece of advice I would give to those hiring cars in Ireland is to try and get one with SatNav as this will hopefully save you getting lost when the signs run out...as they tend to do, especially in the deepest parts of the countryside (the reasoning being I suppose if you are there, it must be because you live there...and know where you are going).

However, last week I used my SatNav for the first time as I was going out of Dublin to somewhere in the country and it (TomTom) wanted to take me by a crazy route out of town (I just ignored it) and also told me I must be wrong when I went on a brand new bit of road because the programming has not caught up. Where it really comes into its own is on the tiny roads.

Have a lovely time in Ireland everybody!

Felicity, I have taken your (and others) advice and have ordered a TomTom. Got a great deal from Costco for a GPS that includes maps of Europe, USA and Canada.I have also spent hours combing the AA auto route planning website and have the big roads memorized! I can't wait to see how the TomTom routes me from Killarney to Blarney Smile

Look out, Ireland, here we come!

bcwired, I will be sure to report back on our experiences in Ireland.
Here's hoping that we will have a reasonable amount of good, clear weather.
