Hi, my husband and son are going on their first father-son vacation on MOnday to Dublin and Galway for the week. Neither one has been to Ireland before but both are experienced travelers. Our son is 25. Any last minute ideas from recent trips to recommend on sites/pubs/fun stuff that two adult men using public transportation and who both are SLOOOWWW travelers (no limitations, just VERY relaxed) should know about? Best current music in pubs for example, quick day trips by bus (I recommended a ferry to the Iran Islands or a bus to the Cliffs of Moher already and told them about the Temple Bar area in Dublin). Thanks!

Hi Karrie,

Here's my input. We haven't been to Dublin but did visit Galway last year for 5 days.

We did the double decker bus tour of 1 hr. around Galway City. Gives a good overview of the city. Also took the all day bus tour to Connemara region (Lally's Tours). This tour went all through the Connemara region, Twelve Bens Mountains, place where they filmed The Quiet Man, Kylemore Abbey, Killary Harbor, through Spiddal, then back to Galway. Lots of stops for photo shoots along the way. Also stops for the sheep crossing the street! LOL Quite hilarious to see them.

In Dublin they can also do the hop on hop off bus tour, and also tour on their own. I have the name of a tour company in Dublin that they might enjoy. We took a tour w/ them this past October in Rome and it was wonderful. They are now also offering tours in Dublin. The tour guides are from Ireland (I believe Dublin) so they are quite entertaining. Plan to do the Dublin tour w/ them when we visit there.

We used public busses and taxis to get around Ireland. Didn't want to drive over there! Bus system is excellent. We took the bus from Galway city to Rossaveal (45 min.) then the ferry out to Aran Islands (Inishmore), another 45 min. trip. Aran Islands is an interesting experience. Like going back in time. There is hiking, bike riding and you can hire a tour guide to take you around. The island is not all that big so a 1/2 day or less can show you the island. There are many places to eat there also.

Hope this helps.
