Hi Everyone, I am planning a trip to London next month for my birthday and have some questions. I plan to fly into Gatwick and out of Luton:

1. Is there a train or bus direct from Gatwick to Central London?
2. Is there a train or bus direct to Luton Airport from Central London and does anyone know the schedule?
3. What are good day trips out of London if one is staying only four days? Is it feasible to attempt any?

Thanks for your responses. I am so excited about this trip, I plan to see Wicked and just enjoy my birthday to the max in a city I love. It's been a while since I was there.

I can chime in on this one!

It's absolutely feasible to do this, the question is will you want to - plenty to keep you occupied in London for four days. But if you desire to head out of town, we just published this article from PatrickLondon, Walking to Stonehenge which sounds really cool to me.

When I was in London a few years ago, we did a day trip to Hampton Court. Shoot, now I'm reminded that I never finished that trip report - must do that.

Oh and wait, while poking around, I found this, which may help, Gatwick Airport

Hope that helps.

I've not been to Luton Airport but I know that there's a regular Thameslink train service run by First Capital Connect that will take you straight to/from the centre of London.

I expect you'll find there's plenty to occupy you in London for 4 days. But of course there are many possible day trips:
- Stonehenge and Hampton Court are both excellent suggestions.
The following are all easily reachable in one day:
- the university towns of Cambridge and Oxford,
- the cathedrals at Canterbury, Ely (near Cambridge), Salisbury (near Stonehenge), Winchester, Chichester
- the lively and characterful seaside town of Brighton
- many quaint country towns such as Lewes.

Generally it is quickest to travel by train. However, do be aware that trains in England are expensive!

I found all answers to transport questions in the UK at direct.gov.uk then 'journey planner'. It even tells you how long eacy journey takes and gives you choices. Includes train, bus, underground, walking.

And there's Windsor by train from Waterloo Station - very walkable town and the castle's pretty cool, too. Probably would not even take a full day as I recall.

Thanks so much for the information and suggestions guys, this is so exciting, I've got some planning to do!

I've always wanted to visit Stonehenge and will definitely look into going there. I have visited all the major must sees before so I will have time.
