Hi!
I didn't think I would be travelling this year again, but I am suddenly taking my 84 year old mother to Scotland in 8 weeks time.

I am suddenly organising this trip and have a coach tour for us for most of the time due to her mobility issues due to age, rather than disability.

I have NEVER driven in outside my home state (which is small), and would love advice on how to get her around Glasgow for 4 days prior to the trip.

I am also wondering IF I hired a car for a couple of days, are there any B & B or small hotel recommendations on the Loch Lomond side of Glasgow where we could stay prior to the tour.

I am even open to half day bus trips, but they are all long, full days and she'll be exhausted.
I was thinking of perhaps a half day to Loch Lomond, perhaps the Burrell collection, and anywhere like gardens (she loves those) that I could physically get her to.

Any links for the elderly or help at all would be most welcome Smile

Greetings,

I so wish I could return to Scotland this year! I hope you have a great trip.

When we were in Glasgow we used the Hop on Hop off bus the first couple of days.

I can't recommend a B&B by Loch Lomond but I've had great luck using Smoothhound. I've found some real gems there. smoothhound

For single day tours we've used Rabbies Trail Burners. They have small groups and are a little more personalized. Rabbies Trail Burners

If you do hire a car, last time we used 1car1. Their rates were lower than auto europe and they picked us up from the airport. car hire

If you do hire a car I would advise that you request an automatic transmission. Even if you drive a manual transmission at home, not having to shift is one less thing to worry about.

I also used AA route finder quite extensively. route finder

I hope this helps and have a great trip.

Tracey

Hi again,

I should have mentioned that Glasglow has an excellent public transportation system. You should be able to easily get around using their regular city buses. Cabs are everywhere. This can get a bit pricey but it is an option for travel within Glasgow. I believe they also have a subway but we never used it.

And the residents are very proud of The Kelvingrove Museum. When we were there, the museum had just re-opened and everyone we spoke to told us we had to visit. We did and were impressed. Admission is free!!

We also enjoyed the Glasgow Cathedral. The stained glass windows are beautiful.

regards,
Tracey

They certainly do, it's the third oldest in the world after London and Budapest but, since modernisation some people have called it The Clockwork Orange for some reason.
