For those visting England this year, there is a website listing details and a calendar of events celebrating the Queen's Golden Jubilee. For example, on June 1, there will be a classical music concert scheduled at the palace. On June 3, there will be a pop music concert in the palace gardens featuring Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John and Eric Clapton. Tickets will be issued by lottery, and the site will have the forms one needs to enter the drawings - I believe up to 12,000 tickets will be issued. Fromt he press release I read, it does not eppear one must be a British citizen to attend.
The Queen will also make a ceremonial procession from Buckingham Palace to St Paul's Cathedral on June 4 and will make a balcony appearance that day to watch the Royal Air Force. Go to http://62.190.2.96/queensprogramme.asp for a complete listing of the Queen's programs.

Another bit of important information regarding the Queen's Golden Jubilee - the banks in the UK will be closed Monday and Tuesday, June 3 and 4.
Great info Tracy! Thanks! I wasn't quite sure what the Jubilee was - and didn't we just have one? But the web site says:
The year 2002 will mark the 50th anniversary of Her Majesty The Queen's Accession to the Throne. This will be an occasion both to look back at the role that The Queen has played in the affairs of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth over the last 50 years and to look forwards.

Another bit of useful information for travellers is that the London underground will run all night over the long weekend 1st June - 4th June. The official website for the Golden Jubilee can be found at www.goldenjubilee.gov.uk which I think is just the front door of the one mentioned by Tracy. With regards to the tickets for the 2 concerts (one classical and one pop) they are (as Tracy said) available by ballot only and you must have an address in one of the following countries to qualify; England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands or the Isle of Man. Further information can be found at: www.bbc.co.uk/queensconcerts/

Though I was not aware of the need to be a UK citizen, it does make sense that citizens get the tickets over visitors.
My family is luckily going to be in London June 1-7! We are within a 10 minute walk of Buckingham palace, so we plan on taking advantage of these celebrations. From what I read, the pop concert will be projected on big screens outside the palace gardens, so even those who are not lucky enough to get tickets will be able to enjoy the festivities.
I am sorry we are going to miss the big procession on June 15, but at least we get to share in some of tehe excitement.
You're right Tracy, the concerts will be projected on big screens, so everyone else should be able to see some of the concerts even if they can't get in. It looks as though most of us will be watching them this way as there are 12,000 tickets and already over 1 million uk people have applied for them.... it's so daft! I hope you really enjoy coming to England and the weather is fine (for a change). Back to the concerts, I've heard some of the other acts in the concerts include Annie Lennox, Sir Cliff Richard and Tony Bennett. Geri
