I have checked out various agencies for an 11 day rental and I am amazed at the price discrepancies!

Kemwell and Auto Europe have similar prices that are at least $400 lower than Hertz, Budget, etc. The base price of the American companies w/o CDW are about the same or more than the other two companies' rate that includes CDW.

Can someone confirm that Kemwell and Auto Europe are reliable? I want an automatic transmission - any problems getting that when it has been paid for?

I think I will go with Kemwell if no red flags show up on this board!

Pauline, if I just use the link here on the website, slowtrav still gets the commission, correct? After reading your section on Autoeurope, I feel much more confident. I know you wrote that a few years ago - does it all apply now for Ireland as well (customer service, etc?)?

So-o-o, do not upgrade (on small Irish roads), look RIGHT when crossing as a pedestrian, and PRAY that the automatic you booked is available!

We used Auto Europe (through Slow Trav) to book an automatic in August 2007 and were pleased it was there when we arrived at Shannon. I can't tell you how many times we all expressed our relief that we had an automatic for our first time in Ireland.

Just in case you end up considering Kemwell again...we've used them about 12 times and had no problems. Most of the times were in England and Scotland but we did use them for Ireland as well. We always found the best rates through them.

And yes if you are planning on driving on rural Irish roads you want the smallest car you can get!

If you have any problems, always contact AutoEurope customer support, even if you also contact the local agency.

Kemwell is owned by AutoEurope and I have heard they are very reliable.

If you find a cheaper rate, tell AutoEurope and they will meet it. I have heard they do not meet the Kemwell rates, but you could give it a try anyway.

I always like to use Arugus Car Hire when in Europe...they are Irish...but have not checked out their Ireland prices lately.
