Any recommendations?? I have an early flight so I'm thinking it's better to sleep at the airport. Good price and close to the airport are the most important characteristics for me.
we have used Late rooms a few times on the continent without a problem. Airport Hotels in the UK are generally bleak, and this one looks no different. However the Brittania is a little cheaper and has a shuttle bus to the airport.

I used to live around the corner from the Britannia, and I seem to recall going there for a wedding once. It's not bad. Not terribly bijou or personal but it will only take about 15 minutes to get the airport and not far from Didsbury village in one direction or west Didsbury in the other.
There used to be a really nice restaurant called The Lime Tree not far from here (a short taxi ride) in Lapwing Lane but as this demonstrates there are plenty of good places to eat round and about that area. In fact Didsbury used to be a rather sought after area 20 years ago (although I think the smart money has moved to other areas now)and if you have any time, it's worth a bit of a ramble to look at the Victorian housing.

There is a good choice of hotels around the airport. There are a few Britannia hotels, the Brittania Airport and Brittania Country House hotel that share a free transfer bus. The Country House is to be avoided despite its good looks and low price. At the weekend the Crowne Plaza, one of several 4 stars by the terminals can have very good rates. There is a table of 13 hotels with indicative prices and whether they have transfer buses and costs at the foot of this Manchester Airports Hotels page.

Am I right in understanding that the Britannia has 2 hotels at Manchester airport - the Country House and their other one. You see the "other one" is tempting, but I'm concerned about ending up in the Country House considering your comment. :S
There are 2 Britannia hotels within 3 miles of Manchester airport, but neither of them is within the airport grounds and you'd have to take a shuttle bus to either of them.
In my day the one called the Britannia Country House had a bit of a reputation as a knocking shop but there wasn't anything dodgier than that about it. Big H's comment makes it sound pretty bad, but I don't know any specifics.

One of our sons has just phoned from a new Premier Inn in Manchester. He says it is very good of it's kind, very clean and comfortable and his room is very spacious. Premier Inn Manchester Airport Runger Lane Wilmslow Road Manchester M90 5DL Despite it's name it may not be very close to the airport, but please check out the link as there are several more that are closer. Surely it would be better than staying at "knocking shop" Perhaps Bee Bee can translate should you not know this quaint expression of ours! Wendy
