My brother will be in London for about a week late May-early June this year & is having problems finding relatively cheap self-catering or b&b places for 1. Any suggestions?

I'm never anyone's first port of call for hotel suggestions because I don't use them in London but it might be helpful to post what the budget is. I know that the easyHotel
has rooms starting at £25 per night. Another alternative might be to join the Royal Overseas League . Their London accommodation is not too expensive and is incredibly beautiful and central.

As to self catering, I'm afraid I can't be of any help. Sorry

For self-catering, you can look at the following:

Aston apartments

or Vancouver studios

They seem to get good reviews on Tripadvisor.com

I've stayed at the Citadines which tend to be more expensive than the above.

Chris, EasyHotel is a good choice for basic accommodation as long as it's booked well in advance. However, there is no breakfast. TV is charged extra as well.

What's his budget, and does he have a preference to where in London he'd like to be?

Have you looked at Travelodge and Premier Travel Inn? They usually offer fairly affordable accommodation.

Depending on where you want in London, you'll find them at others here: http://www.ukhotel.com/london

A B&B is usually the most worthy option for your money regarding standard and quality. If it is possible to stay a little out of the central areas, you can get it cheap too. Try f.ex. the Southside or Brook Green.

My brother ended up booking at Aston Apartments. He hasn't reached the UK yet, but I'll try to talk him into giving me a review to post once he gets home.
