Well we're off tomorrow for a decidely un-slow trip to Ireland. We'll only be there for 10 days (our friends have limited time off), but it's certainly better than nothing! We'll start in Dublin and then wander south/southwest for a few days, mainly revisiting some favorite places and showing them to our friends, who are going for the first time.

I was a little surprised by the relative shortage of information on ST for Ireland (not a single restaurant review, for example Confused). We will endeavor to remedy that to some small extent when we return!

Have a great time in my native land, Kevin! I must write something as well - there are some very good restaurants in Dublin, not always at top price. My favourite is Romano's on Dublin's Capel Street - only a few minute's walk from O'Connell Street. As the name suggests it is an Italian but you can get a super three-course lunch for €10. Try it if you're there - it's always popular which is a good sign.

Wish you a safe journey and a great time,

PJD.

Kevin, I'm so excited that you will be in Ireland. I must have missed that somehow on the boards. If you will be checking in on us here I hope you read this. Perhaps others will know this as well. My daughter is planning on doing some travel beyond Ireland after she finishes up with her semester in Cork this December. She'll have several weeks through early January before she returns to the States. My question is about storage of her major luggage while she travels with a backpack. Does anyone know where she can store luggage in Dublin for several weeks til she flys home in January? Any tips/ideas would be gratefully appreciated! Bon Voyage Kevin! Barb Cabot

Kevin, if you are in Dublin on a Sunday, I can recommend the buffet lunch at the Herbert Park Hotel in Ballsbridge. The food is amazing - at least it was on the day I was there. You have to be really hungry because you will want to (and can) try everything. You get live jazz with it.

For a great, inexpensive lunch with locals, try Kilkenny. It's a cafe located close to Trinity College on Nassau Street, and is on the upper floor of the shop by the same name that sells Irish products from all over. They have hot and cold lunches served in a cafeteria-style setting. Really good brown bread, salads, and quiches.
