Do anyone have information on summer languages courses in colleges in England? My daughter (15 years old) wants to go to England for 2 weeks on july, and I find 2 colleges that could fit our needs. One is the Winchester College (through discovery summer organization) and the other is the Canterbury King School (through Our World). Any infos about them? I'm looking for a very good, reliable school with good teachers.
Thank you
Lia

I don't have any direct info/expereince on these courses but many independent schools, day and boarding, lease their premises to various organisations during the long school holidays for either day or residential camps for either childcare or specific sports/arts experiences.

Both Winchester and King's Canterbury are very good schools for their term time pupils and in nice settings - I doubt if any of the regular staff are involved in the vacation time courses but the school would be unlikely to allow their premises to be used or their name to be associated with a dubious organisation. (That is only my assumption, obviously)

Anyone working with children or young people in the UK has to be checked out by the Criminal Records Bureau (I have recently had to have my past checked out, simply because we are hosting an exchange student for 5 days) - places offering sports/adventure activities have to have qualified staff and particular ratios of staff/pupil numbers. The languages staff should have TEFL qualifications - Teaching English as a Foreign Language.

Lia- this school I know really well, although not specifically its EFL teaching. Marlborough College Summer school My children went to school here (in normal term time) and one of them had a job helping out in the summer school.

It is in a really nice situation and I know people who have attended the summer school as a family and loved it.

The programme for teenagers seems to be very well organised here and the English teaching is combined with all the other fun things you can do in the afternoons and evenings. A lot of the normal teachers (who are of very high calibre) work in the summer school.
