We are flying Continental to Frankfurt and connecting (hopefully) with Alitalia to Rome. We travel with a couple rolling carry-on bags but I understand that they must be "checked" on Alitalia and I assume that includes business class.

I have read on a forum here that we can go direct from the Continental gate to the appropriate Alitalia gate. Is this true...or must we go to the Alitalia ticket counter to check our bags and get a boarding pass? I understand that although Alitalia is affiliated through "SkyTeam" with Continental, that Continental cannot print us Alitalia boarding passes.

Finally, if one takes the train from one Frankfurt terminal to the other does this add another layer of security checks upon re-entering the terminal?
