Try www.Madridman.com website, see if anyone can give you some recommendations in the forum. I can't because you are out of my price range. We stayed at the Jazz Hotel last December and liked it very much. It's very near Las Ramblas. Two things you might not like: 1) it's got a very modern decor (which I liked, but not everyone will) and 2) it's located above the metro and you can hear rumbling on the lower floors, so it's best to ask for a room on an upper floor. We had a corner room--very spacious with a sitting area with sofabed for our daughter. I've forgotten what we paid, but it's much closer to $250 than to $400.

We stayed literally around the corner from Las Ramblas in a small hotel called Hotel Gaudi, after the artist. It had a small cute bar, was very clean, everyone spoke English, etc. The room was very small and a little stuffy with no view but it was quiet and decent enough for a couple of nights. Avoid a room on the street side however as the night noise we heard was pretty loud. We paid around $120 US, no breakfast. There was a cool looking museum directly across the street that looked very interesting, also named after Gaudi I think and I regret that we didn't head over there (but the lines were long getting in). The location could not have been better!

Hello, We stayed at the Hesperia Tower in March, a fabulous 5 star ataffordable prices because of it's dire location! I am not suggesting that but I did spy out the Hotel Neri for a future visit www.hotelneri.com a very good, small 4 * quietly located in the old town with an excellent restaurant. It has been recommended to me by friends who stayed there on my suggestion. Wendy
