I was in Prague ten years ago when hotel selection was extremely limited. Now I am returning with my family and need recommendations. There has been a hotel explosion based on the many listings I see in guidebooks and web sites. I am looking for the usual: Centrally located, safe, nice, etc. Any suggestions from recent visitors?

We were in Prague just ten days ago... three nights, from Dec 30 until Jan 2. I had Marriott points, and so we stayed free (!) at the Marriott Hotel on V. Celcini. There is a Renaissance Hotel (also a Marriott property) right across the street.

The Marriott is, of course, an American-type "business" hotel, though during our New Year's stay, people weren't there on business and there seemed to be very few Americans. We traveled with our 10 year old daughter, and our room was great for us-- two double beds, a bit of extra room, TV with lots of channels (we enjoyed BBC Prime, as a variation from CNN). Also, the hotel has an indoor pool, which is a BIG plus for our daughter. There's also a health club. We had room service (good!) one night at a very reasonable price. Across the street is a little not-fancy Italian restaurant where we had a giant meal for the three of us for $25. The hotel concierge was very helpful.

Aside from this, the best part of this hotel truly is the location. Breakfast isn't included, but a three minute walk away is the Municipal Hall, where you can get a great low-cost breakfast. Less than 10 minutes each to Wenselas Square and Old Town Square. You can walk just about anywhere or public transportation is right around the corner.

I don't know if this is the type place you are looking for or what your budget might be, but I thought this place was great for us (especially at the "price" we paid obviously). If you are looking for a place with more "local" charm, I've got a couple of current guidebooks and could give you a couple of suggestions based on the book and my sense of the location given our recent visit.

About four years ago I stayed at the Pariz Hotel, which was very nice. Built in the Art Deco style. Near the very elegant Municipal Building, and easy walking distance to everything except the Castle.

Hotel had a bar and a good restaurant.

Not much interest in Prague, I guess, from the limited responses! Thanks for the suggestions. Location is ALWAYS the key for us. My children are teens/young adults so being able to come and go from the hotel is imperative.

I stayed at the Radisson Alcron SAS Hotel and enjoyed it. Very Art Deco, and in walking distance to many things...though not quite as close as the Marriott and Renaissance. There's also a local hotel that has renovated and reopened...name escaping me at the moment...starts with an A and is right on Wenceslas Square. Email me if you are still looking!
