Hola. Well the good news so far is that the government hasn't given the strike the go ahead. I don't think it will happen but you never know. Whats the chance of you flying in on the 11th instead? Clive

thanks Clive, I am trying to stay calm--I've called Iberia and there is availability if we want to move up our flight (so far) and the cost wouldn't be too prohibitive. But still it would be problematic for our work etc. It would really have to move up to the 10th, not the 11th, to avoid the strike as if we left on the 11th we'd arrive in Madrid on 12th. Of course Iberia claimed they knew nothing about a strike! Someone on another board also mentioned that the strike has to be approved. But couldn't they walk out anyway? At least here, even a court injuction against a strike rarely stops anyone from striking. The union just ends up getting fined and sometimes even the leadership gets jailed, but they still strike. well I will wait a while longer to see what develops--but at some point I will have to decide what to do, before the options disappear... thanks and if you hear anything more let me know...

Hola. Well I just had a difficult phone call with "Aena" the people who run most of the airports in Spain. As I expected they said that they had no information about the strike. There is nothing on their main website either. They did say though that last month the French strike didn't effect flights in and out of France at all and there is no reason to expect that it will be any different this time in Spain. i don't belive a word of it sounded like propaganda to me. I also spoke to a guy from Iberia at Madrid airport and he tells me that as far as he knows the flight IB 6250 will come in to Madrid as normal on the 12th.(I don't know if this is your flight but it sounds about the right time.) He says the connection to Granada should be ok as well. Of course things can change. but for now all seems OK. Clive and Sue

Thank you so much for following up on this. Of course, I don't necessarily believe a word that Aena or Iberia says right now, because after all it is in their interest not to have people panic, cancelling flights etc. So I guess I'll have to just wait and see what develops. We still have a few weeks. I will try to stay calm and get back to planning the trip It occurred to me (waking up in the middle of the night!) that we forgot to get an International Driver's Permit, so off to AAA to get that on Saturday. Thanks Clive!
