My wife and I are planning to walk the Samaria Gorge and Imbros Gorge in Crete May 18-2. We are arriving in Hania and wanted to use local tranport. We are having difficulty understanding the bus schedules. I was hoping to take a bus from Hania to the head of the Samaria Gorge on Sunday May 18th- while my wife (who has a weak knee) was going to head for Hora Sfakion and take the ferry to Agia Roumeli and walk up the Samaria trail as far the Iron Gates and back. We hoped to meet that afternoon at Agia Roumeli and take the late ferry back to Hora Sf for the night. Then do the Imbros Gorge the next day and then take a local bus back to Rethymno for the night. Does anyone know how often the buses go from Hania to the head of the Samaria Gorge and buse schedules to and from Hora Sf? Also how frequent will the ferries be Agia Roumeli to Loutro to Hora Sf in mid May? We are unable to figure this out from our guide books. Cheers, Dono
I don't have any experience hiking the gorge. It has been on my list for a while. My husband has a hard time getting away in the spring which is when I want to visit Crete.
Have you tried googling on the web for the information? I found this schedule for KTEL. It doesn't have a lot of details. This site mentions a bit about getting to the gorge. If no one else replies, I'd recommend trying several different type of google searches to see if you can get more information from the blogs and other sites on the web. My guess is it will be pretty easy since none of the sites seem to mention much more than the bus company and the different accesses to the gorge.
