We will be in Prague area Jul.19-23, 2008. I am having trouble finding a place to stay outside of the city so that we can leave our car and take public transportation in daily to tour. Can anyone help out with some towns that would have trains or buses to take to the city center? We will be driving from Berlin to Prague and then on to Budapest. We will be looking for the same type of housing in Budapest area for 2-3 days. Linda

We will be in Budapest in May staying at Petnehazy Club Hotel. About 5-6 miles from the city center. Has public transportation and shuttle service from hotel. Have had several email conversations with the program director who is much more than accommodating with quick replies to every question no matter how important it is. I ended up having her arrange all the tours we wanted to take. So far I am most pleased with the service. Check out their website. Looks great. We can't wait to get there in 37 days. Not counting mind you.
Regarding parking in Budapest, it is very expensive in city center (up to euro 20/day). So if you prefer to stay downtaown, I suggest to look for the so-called ‘park-and-ride’ (P+R) parking lots. These lots are located near major subway stations and bus terminals (head of Árpád Bridge in Pest, Nagyvárad tér, Örs vezér tere,Népliget, etc.) and they are quite cheap. Hope this can help.
