Anyone with recommendations for a hotel in Zagreb? We are using Zagreb as a base for 3 or 4 days the second week of September and will have a rental car, so parking would be nice. I'd like to be within a 15 minute walk of the main tourist attractions. I'm also looking at Trip Advisor, but would like some Slow Travel recommendations. Don't want to go over $150 US if possible. Also -- I could use points and stay at Westin or Sheraton. Are these within walking distance of the main tourist and restaurant areas? Has anyone stayed there?

I spent a few months in Zagreb about 10 years ago, so my information is old, but here you go:

Sheraton is a great location...right downtown, near the train station and on the tram line. The Inter-Continental is out aways, would probably need a car or figure out the bus system. The Esplanade is crazy expensive but so very nice and great location also. I don't know where the Westin is.

I stayed several nights in the Sheraton and it was nice. Again, my info is so old, I'm sorry!

CVH -

I will be in Zagreb for one night, June 6, and found this site to be most helpful. It is chock full of information about accommodations and loads of other things about Croatia too.

I ended up booking a private accommodation called Apartment Lessi in the Upper Town. I don't know if I got lucky or not - it looks and sounds very nice, and the price was right, but I'll write a review after I return and let you know.

Good luck, and enjoyable planning.

The Sheraton is located in a pretty centralized area. The Westin (where W stayed last month) is a little further away from the center.

My personal recommendations are for the following:

Regent Esplanade - A former stop of the Orient Express. By far the most beautiful in Zagreb.

Hotel Dubrovnik - The most centrally located hotel in the city.

Palace Hotel - Centrally located with some serious old world charm.
