I've been to Spain a great deal and I mean to see a lot more of Italy so I've no intention of playing down the appeal of either country - or of France - - BUT why is Portugal so neglected on this site? It's got plenty that would be well covered by now if it were in any of the other countries.

Yes, I know if I feel like that I should write a trip report on it myself. Don't criticise me on those grounds, though, because I've just started one.

David, I totally agree and have the intent to develop a Portugal itinerary piece later this year--in time for the contest. What do you think, Pauline?

Myabe you'll inspire me, Bob. As you know, we spent 4 weeks in Portugal in October '04 and had a wonderful time. I don't do trip reports, but we stayed at some delightful quintas and I WILL do reviews. Aloha, Ann

Here's the URL of my page on our trip to portugal last year. Spent 12 days there and enjoyed it immensely. We visited Lisbon and from there headed north. We did not go to the Algarve.

Hmmm ! Two of my favorite travelers also enjoy Portugal. I would hope to borrow from their experience. I have been twice for a total of 4 weeks---both times in late March. Both of you are more current than me for accommodations. Steve, I loved your report.

Steve, See my gallery above, but I was not in Istria at all. I am downplaying this trip, although it was great, because of my blasphemy.
This is the first time we have taken a group tour, albeit a small group on a great small ship. I may ruin my reputation as a independent travel guru. But, it was terrific, if you can stand a bunch of old people--just kidding!
We have also been to Slovenia on an earlier trip and liked it too. Let me know how I can help. Ann from Hawaii above did a great trip to Croatis on their own---I know she can help.

Bob:

My program for Slovenia is pretty much complete, although I'm still not sure where to stay when we visit Trieste. Want to stay outside, maybe in Muggia.

I have read great stuff about the Soca River valley but we did not make it there. There is a WW1 museum in one of the towns.

Actually there are quite a few places "neglected" on this site.I don't see it as so much "neglected" as just less people writing about them.I wish there was as much about Spain as there is about Italy and France, but more people here are going to Italy and France.I wish there were as many Americans going to Spain as those going to Italy as there is soooo much more info about living or visiting in Italy from an American perspective than whats available on Spain. There is lots of UK perspective on Spain else where, but very little from the American perspective and sometimes thats really necessary.

I hope to add some more info about Spain ,Portugal and other places soon during our slow trip around the world and imagine those areas will grow on this site when more people do that. Please do write about your experiences in Portugal ,I and others would love to read it!

My wife and I were in Portugal in August of 2004. For me, it was a sort of coming home after 15 years. Might be biased, but Portugal in my eyes is a beautiful country, especially in the North.

Here is a link to the online photo album. Lots of photos. Hope you don't mind the quality and the people in them. :-)
