It's about time for our very first PhotoHunt in the Rest Of Europe forum!
Here are the guidelines: You select one of your own photos to post that in some way utilizes the topic. Use the topic as a concrete prompt, or find a novel approach. Each person, just one post/photo per thread topic, (or two if you must)please. Photos should be resized to be no wider than 600 pixels. Too-large photos slow down the loading of the thread, and will be deleted. Read about how to post a photo in a thread, here. If you have an idea for a photo hunt topic, contact one of the Mods to offer the suggestion instead of beginning another thread.
Posting photos in the thread gives your permission for SlowTrav to eventually move the photos over to Photohunt albums in the Slow Photos site.
Today's prompt is "Path"
You're encouraged to describe your photo--where you shot it, details of what you were doing or what was going on, etc.
Old Town Kotor sits on the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro. The Bay of Kotor is carved out of a ring of mountains that shoot almost straight up from the water, leaving very little level ground for development. Old Town Kotor sits in one of those few level areas, but it backs up to a vertical wall of mountain. In this photo, we had just completed the climb up to the top of the fortification above. We are looking back down to the rooftops of Kotor and realizing that on that zig-zag path we climbed the mountain many times over.

This was part of the path we had to take to see this view.... Switzerland, June 28, 2008 - a hike we took from our base in Pontresina. We went up and over instead of going along the side of the mountain.... very scary at times but beautiful.

Here is the path along the top of the wall that surrounds Old Dubrovnik. Along this walk you can enjoy beautiful views and vantage points of the entire city, surrounds, and the Adriatic.
Oh, and after Deborah's amazing shot from the top of the mountain at Kotor, thought you may like to see a view of that mountain (I believe it's the one on the right) and path from the bottom, in Old Kotor. (sure wish we had had the time to climb the path when we were there!)
Yes, Terry. You are right. The canal you are taking your photo from is the same one my picture shows in the upper right. That black church dome is the key. If you look at the mountain from your perspective, it looks like one single mountain. But really it is two. The small church on the far right of your picture is half way up. The fortification point where the flag sits is just out of frame where you see the final row of green trees. Here is the view from our apartment across the bay. If you look very closely, you can see the red Montenegrin flag.

Please forgive me for the third post, but here is the same view, at night. The lights follow the path up and along the top of the mountain.

The pathway spiraling up to and around Mistras, the deserted medieval city on Mount Tagetos not far from the site of ancient Sparta where Menelaus and Helen once reigned.
Encircled by these paths gone wild are ruins and reconstructions of many Byzantine churches and chapels, some with remarkably beautiful frescoes and mosaics.
Thanks Teaberry for starting PhotoHunt in Rest of Europe. These are such beautiful photos from places I've not heard of before and now maybe want to travel to in the future.
This is a photo I took of a path up on Petrin Hill in the City of Prague in the Czech Republic. This is during the month of November in 2006. The leaves are gone but the views of Prague Castle, the Vltava River and the red rooftops of the buildings in New Town below were very beautiful.
