Hello everyone, I am seriously contemplating Greece as a next destination for our vacations, and I have questions about greek wines. Any experiences anyone?
Are there any great and affordable whites? How much does the wine cost in Greece? For a decent bottle of white lets say? Are there any sparkling wines? I just can't digest young wines, but am a big amateur of good sauvignon or chardonay. I am not looking for big wines 50E a bottle, but rather every day type of wine.
I also don't apreciate sweet wines. My first choice would be a brut for a sparkling or a mousseux.
Also, are there any imported wines sold in Greece and if yes, how expensive they are?
Our trip to Greece was 10 years ago but I do remember GREAT wines - inexpensive. Very similar to Italy. We just ordered the house or what was local and never had a bad bottle or glass. Did not try the sweet wines....
I agree with PAS. The times I've been in Greece, I just ordered the house white or red. Be careful of retsina wine. You should try it but it's an acquired taste as far as I am concerned.

We went to Greece a few years ago and were worried about finding good wine. But we did! On Santorini we even went wine tasting at some of the wineries. The apartment we rented, the caretaker took us to his friends wine shop and we got to taste and buy with a discount. When we were at one of the wineries, our pourer said they were trying to get the word out that Greece does have good wine and not all wine is Retsina!
