I'm 80% sure I'm going to a conference in Copenhagen in late August (the 20% is trying to see if I can afford it, plus final approval on the proposal). Since we'd like to stay a whole week and prefer flats over hotels, I started looking for apartments. Not sure who is in our group yet, but there could be as few as 3 of us or as many as 6. Of course that will impact what apartment we rent, but for now I'm just doing the initial see-what's-around. The conference is at the University of Copenhagen Amager campus, Karen Blixens Vej 1, 2300 København S. I'm just trying to get a sense of what's out there, what prices and distances are like, etc. I've bookmarked a few possibilities: several at http://www.travel-library.com/apartments/europe/denmark/copenhagen/ also here: http://www.rent-holiday-homes.com/search.php?region1=760&submit=y and 2 flats here: http://www.copenhagen-flats.com/
but really just getting started. We'd like to stay in some proximity to the conference, but don't mind walking/using public transport, as long as it isn't horribly far. I saw a few hotel reviews for Copenhagen, but no apartment rental reviews. Any suggestions (areas or neighborhoods to focus search, particular flats you think might be great, other links to flats, etc.) most welcome. thanks!
We have a metro. Station right next to the University. In a few minutes you can get from apartments in the areas Christianshavn, City and Frederiksberg. When you find some you like, ask again, and I can tell you more about where it is situated.
Hi Thrish Actually I find all of them nice. You certainly did your homework. I think Christianshavn is a lovely area, but personally I do not like the furniture so much. And I never like it, when the livingarea is not photographed. There has been a discussion of how to see if the owner is trustworthy. And the photoes were mentioned. If is is not shown, either it is not there, or not worth showing. I would take the one in Teglgårdsstræde. It does not get anymore central than that. And I think the interior looks very cosy. If you end up a larger number in your party you could try to as for photoes for Tordenskjoldsgade. The metro goes all the way from the Airport, so you can get aquanted with it right from the start. Please notice this little finesse. To go to the University get off at Islands Brygge and not the station saying University. Don't as my why they did it.
Thanks soljet. I will certainly note the station name tip. I sent off some inquiries but as I was underwhelmed by these and some other choices I dredged up, I think we've decided now to go with an agency called " Hay4You." They arrange apartments that belong to families who are on vacation. They won't be able to figure it out for a few months, but as the size of our party is still up in the air, I'm content to wait a bit. You can request areas, and as of now our choice would be Christianshavn, just based on what I've been reading.
Anyway many thanks, and I hope you will not mind if I consult you again once Hay4You turns up something (the name is rather odd--does it refer to "hit the hay" or am I missing a language trick?)
HAY4YOU - Like you I thought it had something to do with sleeping in hay. Then I had a look at their website. Originally they also had a gallery and hostel, so HAY is short for "Homes", "Art" and "Youth".
Some time has gone by--much frustration. There are now only 2 or 3 in our party--2 for sure, the third is deciding, but I want to get the place reserved as it is getting late to be doing this. None of the places I was looking at above worked out, nor did several others. I found a great place in Christianshavn right across from Our Savior at CPH Rentals but they want a long-term booking. But yesterday Hay4You sent 6 options: Frederiksborggade 32 Wildersgade 60 Vester Voldgade 7 Gothersgade 137 Købmagergade 13 Peder Hvitfeldts Stræde 13
I mapped them all out and it looks like easy Metro trip to our conference, or from the Wildersgade place we could walk. I have photos of them all--I think we would take the Wildersgade place except it looks a little too bohemian for comfort--bad photos. The last one in the Latin Quarter is nice but on the ground floor--I would worry about noise. We are leaning toward the Frederiksborggade or Kobmagergade flats which are the best from the photos.
Just back in town for 2 days. Looking into it. It is not possible to see the actual apartments on hay4you's homepage. Right now I tend towards Købmagergade and Peder Hvidtfelds Stræde. Be back.
Thanks, soljet, I will look forward to hearing what you think.
The places for which hay4you acts as agent are normally occupied by their owners; they're not holiday apartments, except when their normal occupants are on holiday, if that makes sense. Likely that's why photos aren't on the website. But when they sent me the list of flats available for our dates they offered to send photos, and I took them up on it. I'm glad I did, as the place that would have been closest didn't look very inviting.
I think we've pretty much settled on the Gothersgade place. It turned out that another person going to the conference is going to share with us, so we opted for a 3-bedroom. Of the two 3-bedrooms that were available, it was by far nicer looking. It's huge--170 sq meters, is on a corner and has big windows and lots of light. The back looks on the Botanisk Have. The decor is modern, which is not really to my taste, but it looks quite bright and clean. It looks like it's only a block from the Nørreport metro, and then the Islands Brygge metro is only a block from the conference.
Sounds perfect. Just book it. There is much traffic ofcourse, but overlooking the Botanical garden sounds very nice. And yes you will only be seconds away from the metro. Also you can take it from the Airport. When you get to it at the Airport, go forward on the platform, in order to enter as the first. That will give you a full view from the first seats. Even grownups get the feeling of driving the train all by yourself.
