We've never been to Greece, but we are in process of winding up plans for Sept. 2010. I'm wondering about our last day and night there.

Our experience there is all planned, but I don't have flight reservations yet. I'll do that later. I know that we will need an Athens hotel for one night, before our flight home. We will be taking a bus from Skopelos to Athens that day. I realize that we could stay in the heart of Athens, and that is certainly an option for that last evening. But it might be more convenient to be near the airport. Any recommendations?

This decision would be easier if you had your flight reservations. If you're on an early morning flight then you will want to stay near the airport but if the flight was later in the day I'd spend the last night in Athens taking a final walk around the acropolis enjoying the view.

I seem to recall that the hotel that is closest to the airport is the relatively new Sofitel Athens airport hotel. It is about 50 m from the terminal . . . you can not get much closer than that.

Thanks for the recommendation of the Sofitel - a very nice, somewhat costly airport hotel. Most flights leave Athens early morning, so we might want to be there. A pool, some exercise might feel good.
My choice will depend on when we can travel from Skopelos to Athens. We're taking a bus/hydrofoil to get there, and I imagine that we will come back the same way. I hope the schedules are convenient. Travel agency says they aren't available yet. And who knows, maybe we'll end up flying from Skiathos airport. I can't view those schedules yet either. The downside of planning really far ahead!
