I am planning on backpacking through Europe alone in September, and should be in Munich right around the time of Oktoberfest. I guess the idea of this trip was kind of last minute (at least the idea of Oktoberfest), however, I am now running into the issue of not being able to find a place to stay. I was hoping to stay in a hostel in order to be around other people my age but there are no more hostels available.

I could stay outside of Munich just a train ride away, but I started to wonder if maybe I could find pensions or a family who has a spare room for travelers. Any thoughts on how to go about that?

Thanks for posting in a new topic Moezer!

Check out this website. It is a resource for English speakers living in Germany, they have a whole section on Oktoberfest. If you click on the below link, you'll find that section; if you click on the first topic ("post here if you have a place to rent") there is someone who has rooms available that just posted about them today.

Toytown Germany - Oktoberfest

Please keep us posted. Munich is a great city.

Moezer, I don't know if this would be of any interest to you aside from the housing issue but since you're going to be in Munich the Deutsche Museum is really extraordinary and worth a visit if time permits. Good luck with the housing search ! Barb Cabot

The train system in and around Munich is really quite fabulous, and staying a short train (or S-Bahn) ride outside of the city would probably work out just fine.

If you have the option, try to make your one day here a week day - you have a much better chance of actually getting to experience a beer tent if you are here during the week versus on a weekend.

This is good information for my daughter who decided she is going to Paris, Berlin, added Munich, and back to Paris for a couple of weeks - last week of September and first part of October.

She said it was going to be a waste of October if she did not go to Munich when she is "already in the area" Roll Eyes

Thanks for posting, Moezer.
