We have several days planned in western Switzerland (staying in Lutry on the Lake) and could use some advise on what not to miss. We will have a car and like to visit the less populated, small villages. I have a list of some villages that I think we would like but would really appreciate comments from others who have been in the area. Here's our list of possibilities:

Gruyeres
Murten
Orbe
Grandson
Payerne
Romont
Romainmotier
Avenches

Because we are driving, we really like to avoid the larger populated areas & towns.

Thanks for any help/advise you can give me!

I went to Gruyeres about 5 years ago. It was interesting...very 'storybook' looking, up on a hill, walled town. Had lunch, looked around the town and left shortly thereafter. There was a cheese factory at the foot of the town/hill.

So I'd go back again if I was nearby.
