Yes I know - very sad - but we are doing a cruise and the ship only docks for one day in each of these towns.

Rather than join the other 3000 passengers, we would like to hive off and do our own little day out. ANy itinery ideas, restaurants etc would be very appreciated....

I am not too keen in going into Athens, but read somewhere to rather go across the bay to a near by island that is very untouristy and quaint? I cant remember what it is called though...

Do NOT bypass Athens! I felt the same way before we went and actually ended up loving Athens. In one day you could go to the Palaka district which may be a bit touristy but plenty to do for one day. From there you can even walk up to the Acropolis. Athens is very crowded and overwhelming but not somethink to miss!
