I'm planning on visiting Greece in the near future, does anyone know of any good hostels?, preferably in a party neighborhood. I've heard that Mykonos is full of clubs and great bars, has anyone been here and what is it like? Also, If I visit in Feb. or March how is the weather?
Sorry for all of the questionsSmile!

Hello Thegreatalex,

If you haven't already tried them, you could do a search for Greece at Let's Go Forums, Lonely Planet's Greece page, and the Travel Tips for Greece in Lonely Planet's Postcards section, where people post about their experiences.

You could also do a search for "Greece" and "Greek" on Slow Talk's search page.

I've never been to Greece, but what I read from the above mentioned sources seems to suggest that it's fine to visit Athens through the winter. It sounds as if the tourist industry on the islands is dead October through March, with the exception of a couple of the larger island towns like Fira and Mykonos.

The information I got seemed to me to be ambiguous. One post said the tourist industry on the islands pretty much shut down for the winter. Period. Another post said the tourist industry on the islands was dead during the winter with the exception of a very few towns. So the conflicting information does look as if it would need thorough checking.

I also tried looking on the Fodors forum, but it seems to be down for maintenance or something.

I imagine you're already looking at those other websites I mentioned but, in case you haven't stumbled on them yet, they do seem to me to have more participants from the hostel set than Slow Talk does. I would expect you would get more answers about the hostel scene at Let's Go and Lonely Planet.

Good luck.

I have been to Greece fairly recently...in the summer months. If you go to Mykonos ( party island ) or Santorini in Feb./Mar. I imagine you would fly into them from Athens. Even in the summer with rough waters some of the "fast ferries" didn't operate.
It is my impression from what I researched before my trip that the islands are much more active in beach weather...June, July, Aug., Sept.
Also, in Athens, the Plaka area is the place to stay. No/few cars, nice tavernas, bars, restaurants and close to the sites in the Plaka.
