I know this is a rather arcane question...

Does anyone have first hand knowledge of car washes (such as at a Shell station, etc.) in Munich, or nearby in general?

Thank you...

Since Germans are absolutely obsessive about the cleanliness of their cars, coupled with the fact the Munich is the home of the BMW Worldwide Headquarters, there are a few car washes to be found-- Here is a directory with three pages of listings of them. You will see them all over the place -- from small, gas station ones, to the big, long ones with detail stations, to the handheld variety.

Thank you for the listing - as a matter of fact, I wanted this info so that I could wash my car before giving it back to BMW to put on the boat! (we pick up the car one week from today!)

YAY!! What fun!!! Enjoy cruising around Bavaria in your own Bayrische Motor Werke!! They are simply the most lovely cars in the world to drive, in my opinion. Just remember to watch the speed, the most difficult thing to do in a BMW on the Autobahn. Some areas have unlimited speed limit, others are quite strict.

Vroom.

I'm glad you wrote that and not I, Diana. I was thinking something quite similar but figured that you had much more recent first-hand experience than I. We have some rather amusing recollections of this characteristic from the few years that we lived in Deutschland, such as what the parking lot of our apartment complex outside of Wiesbaden looked like on a weekend afternoon. [Apparently, you can't do that any more - that is, wash your car on a public street. My comment refers to a time quite a while before that regulation went into effect.]

Ann, you are right, it is absolutely verboten verboten verboten to wash your car on the street!!! You have to use a Waschanlage (car wash) which can recycle the water. AND.... no car washes are open on Sundays!! So the lines on Saturday are....well.... you can imagine!!

Diana, it will be a blast, I can't wait - and Mom doesn't know it is going to be a convertible!

Oh boy, that is what I am worried about. Long lines on Saturday. Maybe I should wash it before I get to Munich. Do you think even little towns have car washes?

Absolutely!

I got to this site by following links on the page Diana provided. It seems to cover all of Bavaria. Pick your city; they're listed under "stadt" at the top. They're not that "little," but they're plentiful. I'm sure there are similar sites for other German states.

...and if there are some lines, don't stress, just let the guys in line flirt with you in your sexy new car!!! Maybe some will offer to help you dry it off!
