Hello

Our daughter was an exchange student in Poland last year and we are taking her back this summer. We plan on being in Europe for 2 weeks. Kandace will show us around Poland. I am looking for suggestions for other countries to visit. Our interests are history, architecture and food. I would rather have slow travel instead of 10 countries in 7 days.

Any suggestions – I’m thinking we should just travel to the border counties around Poland.

Greencat, hello, and welcome to SlowTravel.

I have never been to Poland, but I did search around the SlowTalk and SlowTrav sites, and came up with a few links that may be helpful to you.

Since Poland is not all that far from Lithuania, you may be interested in this travel article. A trip to the Czech Republic, Austria, & Germany may fit your needs very nicely, although with just 7 days, you may want to spend your time in just one of these countries. You can find more trip reports here.

If you go to the top of the page, you'll see the Find box. Type in a search there for Eastern Europe, Russia, Czech Republic - you will come up with pages of interesting and hopefully helpful threads.

I am sure that others with some experience traveling in this part of the world will add to this conversation.

We are fond of Poland, especially the southern portion of Malapolska near the Slovak and Czech borders. From there you can drift into Slovakia and even into western Ukraine. Eastern Slovakia is very nice with a number of lovely sites and national parks. Personally I enjoyed this better than the Baltics - again my personal preference.

If you haven't been to Prague, I'd head there. Fabulous city.
