I am considering a trip of about 10 weeks touring through countries like Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Repl., Russia, Poland, old Yugoslavia countries and home to Australia via Turkey and Greece. Has anyone done something similar? How long in each destination would you recommend? I have received good advice about the Russia part of the trip I was just wondering about incorporating the rest into it.

I would recommend taking a look at a few of the other posts here in the Rest of Europe forum. Czech Republic and Croatia are very popular and many members have visited those two countries. We also have a few notes on Eastern Europe and trip reports.

What type of activities or sights do you like? How do you plan to travel? It would be helpful knowing a bit more about why you are interested in these countries to help us with suggestions.

I'm thinking, maybe drop Turkey and Greece, or go to Russia THEN Turkey and Greece. But like Marta said it depends on what you like to do when you travel.

I can offer my thoughts on:

Budapest (the city proper, not the surrounding countryside) We were there for 8 days.

The train ride from Belgrade to Podgorica

Montenegro (The bay of Kotor plus a great deal of the mountainous interior, but not any of the touristed coastal areas) We were there for 8 days.
