We will be in Switzerland for two weeks - last week in August and first week of September. We will be in Bernese Oberland and Lucerne areas. I am curious about the markets at that time of the year. In my reading, I don't find as many mentions of markets as I did in Provence last year so have no idea how the markets in Switzerland compare.
I have read about markets in Bern and Lucerne but wonder if the smaller towns have markets also, and what kinds of things to expect them to be selling.
Thanks for your help.

We spent eight weeks in Switzeland last year: June 2 - July 7th and then November 24 - December 15th. There were numerous Christmas markets in Nov/December but not much in the summer. There is a regular outside market in Basel (mostly food and flowers/plants) and we happened to be in Pontresina when they had a special market: mostly eats and some crafts at the end of June.

When we lived in Switzerland there was a market every Saturday morning in Thun. You must see Thun if you are in the Bernese Oberland!! I think that once a month there is a bigger market - memory fails me at the moment, but I'll check with my husband when we wakes up ;-) The market was everything from veggies and local handcraft, to 'antiques' and clothing. It is held in the main shopping street "Bälliz" which is a two minute walk from the boat terminal or the train station.
