I posted this same message on the France forum but thought I'd put it here too since it has to do with the airport in Geneva.
I wasn't sure where to post this question but thought I'd start here. We are landing in Geneva in early May and plan to spend the first half of our trip in Switzerland and the second half in France. We are flying into the Swiss sector. Since we will be dropping our car off in Avignon, I have checked into renting a car from the French sector of the Geneva airport. I am getting a little confused on how this all works. During a recent Google search I found this comment:
"The only reason for using the French sector even if you are travelling on into France is to pick up a French rental car. In this case, follow the "Secteur Francais" signs before passport control (do not go through Swiss passport control) and you will arrive at the French car rental desks. (You will need to ask a baggage handler to go and fetch any checked luggage from the Swiss side.)"
Have any of you ever had any experience with this? Is it true that we can't get our own baggage and if so, is it a speedy process to have an agent get our bags? I checked with AutoEurope and the agent I worked with is not aware of this. She told me we would pick up our baggage the same as any other airport and then go to the French sector to get our car.
I'm a bit confused by all this and can not seem to get a clear answer on how this works. If we didn't save so much on the car rental, I would just rent from the Swiss sector and return it in Avignon as planned, but it's about $200 less if we rent from France.
I would appreciate any info. on this. As usual, thanks for your help!
