Or is this completely normal for this time of year?

We are roughly 4 weeks from being "on the ground" and I'm seeing some pretty cold/snowy weather conditions reported on our trip route.

Last year we were on Lake Como in mid-May (the 13th) and it was just perfect weather - sunny, bright, and short sleeves were just fine. The condits I am seeing now makes me wonder if we are going to be less lucky this year although we still have time.

In Switzerland, it is downright bloody cold weather reported (in the teens in the Jungfraujoch?) and I wonder if that is just normal for late April and we should expect pleasant (if not warm) weather in late May or if this year is much colder than usual. I visited the Engadin in mid-June a few years ago and it was sunny and bright and warm enough.

I know there is nothing we can do about it, but I was hoping to have the top down a lot on this trip

April weather in Europe!

It does not matter where you are, it is unpredictable. Seville can be 2 degrees C and Amsterdam can be 20, or visa versa.

Switzerland has had a cold April. My husband got stuck in a snowstorm near Luzern in the second week of the month, and is still wearing his lighter winter coat during the evenings in Zürich.

Here in Northern Italy we had much warmer than normal March and a cooler rainier April (good thing, too, we need the water)

Today it is typical spring, clouds and sun, and about 12 - 16 degrees (mid fifties to low sixties).

England has completely unpredictable weather, as do all of the countries which border on the North sea. Good weather in England is completely up to chance. However, when it happens, it is one of the most beatiful places in Europe --- so very, very green.

Mid May should be ok, but the chances of picture perfect weather increase toward the end of the month and into June. Even then, two years ago, early June was cold and damp. No garantees anywhere.

Diana,

Thank you. Sorry for the late reply! I appreciate your on-the-spot weather info and am keeping my fingers crossed because we leave on FRIDAY for Germany (and will be on Lake Como on May 31...)

The weather has been fabulous for the last two weeks in Mid to Southern Germany and in Switzerland as well. We have had a cold week here in Northern Italy, but it will warm up starting tomorrow.
