Elizabeth, I have an enormous amount of sympathy with you. The thing about Capistrano is that while it's a beautifully maintained estate, it's also 'production line stuff'. The houses are similar and it is very very big.
My own place is 3 miles from Capistrano on the other side of town, and is much more relaxed and authentic spanish in style.
I must tell you that while I have many happy regular visitors who rent, I also lose a lot of people who are price orientated because they find accomodation at rock bottom prices on Capistrano. But you get what you pay for.
About Nerja, it is very very charming. I am sure Elizabeth would take a different view if her accomodation would have satisfied.
