Do you want to be "downtown" ? What are you going to do in Stockholm - do you have a program of things to do or is this a casual visit ? My recommendation would be to book a cruise on the Silja Line ships from Stockholm to Helsinki and back. They are floating palaces and 2 nights on the ship will cost less than a hotel or B&B in Stockholm. Silja Line Web page

We spent a week three years ago at the Lady Hamilton Hotel very near to the royal palace in the Gamla Stan area. Lovely small, quiet hotel with a very nice breakfast buffet in an extremely handy location for exploring the city. We had no trouble each evening finding a cozy restaurant for dinner near the hotel. Would definately stay there again. I suggest you take a look at their website for more details. We loved Stockholm and particularly enjoyed taking the short ferry ride over to the island where Skansen (one of the best zoos we've ever visited) and the Vasa Museum are located. We were easily able to walk to the ferry landing from the Lady Hamilton.
