I am in the US and I am looking at air fares on Iberia between a number of cities in Spain. The ticket prices are sometimes so low, they look too good to be true. Are they?
I gather that some of the lowest fares have a non-refundable policy, but is there is something else I'm missing? I don't want to book the fares, for instance, then discover the tickets can only be mailed to a Spanish address, or must be retrieved in person two weeks before the flight, etc., instead of my getting an e-ticket that I can print out immediately at home.
And while I'm at it, I should ask if a 2-hour airport layover in Madrid (Barajas) is sufficient to make a connection to an Iberian flight. I'll only have carry-on and I'm arriving on a Continental flight.
That mainly depends whether your Continental flight is on time. When I took Continental to Madrid, I was on time arriving, but on the return, I was stuck in Newark for several hours longer than I was supposed to be.
I've booked inter-Spain flights on the Iberia website. You do get an e-ticket. But the prices seem low until you actually book - taxes and a booking fee add a bit of a chunk. Those 19 Euro fares come out to something like 60 Euro in the end.
Aha. Thanks. I'll keep clicking until I get the real price.
WillTravel,
That's a given. My choices are 2 hours layover, 3 hours, 5 hours -- I could miss any of them if my plane doesn't arrive on time. I was more interested in knowing whether the terminals for Continental and Iberia terminals required taking a monorail between them or something like that.
Continental flies and lands in Barajas at T1 and all Iberia flights excluding Puente Aereo (Madrid - Barcelona) fly from new T4. There's a shuttle and a bus (201) connecting the two. The buses are every 3 to 8 minutes depending on if you're in transit or not (I don't know if they will consider you in transit as you're not flying with the same company). You can find all the information here Have a very nice stay in Spain! (Are you staying in Madrid also? if so how about a mini GTG?)
I am thinking that a two-hour layover is long enough to get from T1 to the departure gate at T4 in time. Do you agree? (I only have carry-on.)
The airport website doesn't tell me how long the bus travels to get there, just how often it leaves. I assume I will I have to take the bus that leaves every 8 minutes. I know if the plane is very late, I'm in trouble, but I hope Iberia will put me on another plane if that happens.
I regret to say that an overnight in Madrid itself is not in my plans this trip. But thank you for your friendly invitation!
I think that the bus takes about 10-15 minutes (depending on the one you take and on the stops) from T1 to T4. I arrived yesterday at T4 from Italy and the terminals are very near one to the other. I think that only having carry-on you should have plenty of time to get to T4 in time unless your plane is quite late! Hope to see you next time you're in Spain!
