I'd suggest starting with a good guidebook, then coming back here with an outline of what you're thinking. Best wishes,

4MTG, I agree with Sally, a guidebook is a must (oh yes, and a good map too). Also, I seem to remember you were going to visit with friends in Tripolis. I don't know if I got that right. Anyway, if your friends live there, they would be an excellent source of information, if you haven't already picked their brains. (We're forever advising visiting relatives and friends about the Canadian Rockies. We've done it so many times we have short, medium and long itineraries that we pull off the shelf as needed, unless a visitor has a very specialized interest.) As a REALLY quick introduction to the possibilities of a place, I sometimes look at an itinerary of a guided tour. Here's one for Greece and Turkey (of which only the Greek portion is relevant to you, obviously). Also, Lonely Planet's website on any given country provides one with a quick overview.

Hi I've just written a guidebook on the southern Peloponnese which you can see at http://www.sunflowerbooks.co.uk/pelop.htmand buy from Amazon. I'd recommend heading to Mystras (ruined Byzantine city) & Sparta (a few ancient remains); and then on to the coast eg at Kardamyli (my favourite place) or Areopolis (just inland, capital of the Mani region). A good web resource on this region is www.i-escape.com which also has suggestions for where to stay. I'm afraid Tripolis does not have much to recommend it, but don't tell your friends I said that! There is also the Cave of the Lakes about 1 hour north, en route for Kalavrita. And of course Olympia 2 hours west, but that is gearing up for the Games in August, and a bit of a building site right now. Sadly the temple at Vassai is still under wraps. Michalaki
