What is the best way to get from Heathrow to Stanstead airports? What type of time frame is needed for
this transfer(cost) . Has anyone flown Ryanair to the mainland? It looks like a reasonably priced flight if
you can get to Stanstead.
Thanks,
Gerry

Ryanair does have some very good prices. I think that one of our regulars (who might be in Rome on a trip right now) uses them from England to Italy and gets great prices. But I understand that the airports are far apart. You will have to do a lot to save the money. Get your baggage, go to the other airport, check in again. It is sometimes not that expensive if you book your whole ticket at once or find a direct flight to your destination. Remember, you will be tired and grumpy (okay, maybe not - but I am when I get off a flight to Europe).

I would consider this option if it saved hundreds of dollars for the flight or if I were going to spend a few nights in London. Otherwise I would just book on one airline from the US to where I was going.

Both Stansted and Luton are far out. There is both bus and train service to the airports. I believe links are provided at the airport website.
Ryan has flights from 14 pounds plus taxes to Rimini, Ancona, etc. But as demand goes up in summer, so do prices.

For information on getting between Heathrow and Stanstead, which takes about 1-1/4 hours, see www.airwise.com/airports/europe/STN/STN-lhr.html

I've booked clients on Ryan Air between London and Dublin and they were quite pleased.

Best wishes,

Hi Sally,
Thanks for the info, checked the site and it has moved, you may want to check the url. I can't transfer it.
We will look into it for the future. What you can save may make a night in the London area possible.

The page is good. It is the fault of the message board - if you have a period or any other character right after a link, it gets included in the link. I fixed the link in Sally's post to remove the period.

So, when you post a link always leave a space before and after. (I always forget this myself!)

Gerry -- I had tried to send you that URL directly, to your email at cinoble@hotmail.com; each time, though, it comes back as undeliverable. Have you changed email addresses maybe?

The URL is good, and has some good info, so I hope you can make it work!

Everyone should remember to update their email address in their message board profile if it changes. Just click on My Profile in the upper right corner of the window. When I did my mass mailing last month about our new URL for the message board, I got many returned emails because of wrong email addresses.

When we flew out of Stansted (on GO airlines) to Bologna a couple of years ago, we had an early morning flight out, so we just spent the night before in the nearby town, Bishops Stortford. Fairly reasonable bed and breakfast (I think it was about 60-65 GBP for a double) in the George hotel--a really OLD tudor-style building with tiny rooms and sloping ceilings, and a terrific full English breakfast!

Stansted airport is beautiful--quite small, but shiny new and with great facilities. It was about a ten-minute taxi ride to the airport from our hotel in Bishops Stortford. We were very satisfied with our GO flight, as well--it was delayed, but otherwise the service was excellent. Don't know about Ryanair.
