I'm considering an apartment in Brugge for the first week of August. This apartment doesn't list air conditioning. How hot does it get in August and will air conditioning be important? My husband has a very narrow temperature tolerance. Thanks!

If indeed your husband has a low tolerance to heat, then I would say 'yes' to airconditioning.

You will get the cool sea breezes and maybe a fan will do.

When I was in Brugge (in August) several years ago, the highs were about 70 F (21 C). I didn't recall any humidity problems either. Quite pleasant actually.

We were in London for a few days in August - and we stayed at a 4-star hotel. Who would have even given it a thought that at the prices they were charging they wouldn't have a/c. But sadly, they didn't and we spent some miserable, expensive nights. Same thing in Paris. If we are traveling in summer I, now, always make sure they have a/c. The phrase "It never gets that hot here.." is propaganda usually. There There

Well, Belgium is really not normally that warm in August to require A/C. I need to qualify that, however. If you are staying in a hotel where they end up putting you on the very top floor, you might need it. If you are in the countryside, you might need it because opening the windows might bring in insects, and I doubt you will find any screens on the windows.

As a precaution, because of your husband's sensitivity to heat, you might as well book a place with a/c.

I spent a week in Brugge in August 2006. They were in the middle of a heat wave (unusual) and it was miserably hot. Even with open windows, a fan, and a small breeze from the canal, sleeping was hard. Another time, I'd opt for a/c just to be sure.
