I spent 5 days in Santorini without doing the volcano tour (so I know, not an extremely helpful point of view). But for what it's worth, those 5 days were amazing, full of fun, and I never felt like I missed out by not going on the volcano tour.

I did that tour a few years ago. When the boat docked, we opted to stay there as it was hot and a bit rocky underfoot (I had my senior mom with me). The people who did the entire tour said it was a long, hot walk for not much payoff (a little bit of smoke). It is a fun boat ride though. Sharon

It is a fun boat ride. (If you just take the short boat ride) When you get there just decide how far you wish to walk. We did half way, maybe more. If you have never seen a volcanic landscape, it is impressive. My 2 cents

With just 2 days, I would say to skip it. We have done it but were there for a longer time. The hike to the top is not very easy. There is a lot to do there--just taking in the loveliness of the setting. Where are you staying?

Thanks for the response but sorry for the slow reply (was on vacation).
Jane: We are staying in Thira at Hotel Keti (economical/simple but looks like a great view and was suggested by a friend who has stayed there).
