Has anyone done this? I've hear the BMW factory in Munich is especially good. I've done the ususal searches, but can't find anything on the BMW web site about the tours. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I've been a BMW owner for the past 15 years, and we toured the BMW museum in Munich a couple of years ago. It's worth a visit.

I did find this information for you on the factory tour at the BMW Munich plant.

Would love to hear about your experience if you end up going!

I have never done it, but while I lived in Munich I met several Americans who were currently on their factory tour/"car pick-up" trip and who were loving the whole experience... So BMW has a good reputation from my indirect experience.

The Rough Guide gives the following phone number for booking tours of the 'works' --089/38 95 33 06, country code for Germany is 49. [Do not dial the zero before 89 if you dial from the states...] They say to book far in advance (if possible) because tours fill up quickly. If, for soem reason, that number no longer works, sorry! I know that they are currently renovating the 4-cylinder building that houses the main offices and everything--it could be due to some reshuffling.

In terms of buying a car from them directly (not what you are necessarily doing), one of the men told me that the whole trip and car together cost about equivalent to the price of purchasing the car in the states. That really surprised me. I wonder if that is often or ever the case!? ((Seems unlikely, giving the high cost of things in Munich.))
